The IUOTA planning committee is working on the agenda, which will provide topics of interest for everyone

 

The purpose of IUOTA (Inter-Utility Overhead Trainers Association) is to promote increased efficiency and effectiveness of training for Overhead and Underground personnel through the exchange of ideas and training information. The scope of training activities includes safety, communications, operations, maintenance, general work practices, and policies related to training.

The initial meeting of the Inter-Utility Overhead Training
Association was hosted by Philadelphia Electric Company on
June 12, 1985.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman pro tem David Mayo of
Philadelphia Electric, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Secretary
pro tem was Jacob J. Lawrence from P.S.E.&G, Public Service
Gas & Electric of Edison, New Jersey.

Both men were elected at the meeting to serve a two-year term
as Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Eleven members representing the following utilities attended
the meeting:

It was recognized during preliminary discussion that all
companies present were having similar problems with the
high failure rate of lineworkers. The group agreed to assist
each other in developing and sharing information on pre-
employment testing, candidate selection, EEI physical
testing, testing validation and rating/grading during
training periods.

At the meeting the group reviewed the constitution and by laws for
the IUOTA (Substation Training Group) and with slight revisions
adopted our constitution and by laws.
